Kids Win Invention Grant

LEARN Science & Math Club, a nonprofit, all volunteer program that offers science and math enrichment programs to Kansas City kids, was recently awarded a Lemelson-MIT grant in the amount of approximately $10,000 to create a biomedical engineering product called Script Alert. LEARN Science & Math Club is one of sixteen organizations nationwide to receive an InvenTeam grant this year.

Rabbits Rock World Fest

The Kansas City Rock’n Robo Rabbits did their hometown proud! After winning top honors – the Chairman’s Award – at the Western Missouri and Kansas Regional FIRST LEGO League Championship, the Robo Rabbits went on to represent Missouri and Kansas at the FIRST World Festival. There, they competed with the top 79 teams from 34 countries and most American states.

LEARN Kids Win Big in 2012 Competitions

The 2011-2012 robotics season was a huge success for LEARN teams. In the Regional Qualifiers:

  • Our three-person, rookie FTC team - The Red Hot Techie Peppers - won the First Place Motivate Award and 2nd Place Inspire Award.
  • Our FLL Shadow Knights won the Chairman's Award.
  • Our FLL Rock'n Robo Rabbits won the First Place Teamwork Award.

All of our teams advanced to the next level of competition.

Who's Got Brains? We've Got Brains!

LEARN kids marched to battle this October - to compete in the Burns & McDonnell Battle of the Brains. For this battle, Science City and Burns & McDonnell challenged Kansas City kids to design the next great exhibit for Science City. And, our kids did an amazing job! In just three weeks, they pulled together proposals for four awesome exhibits. Click on the following to find out just how cool Science City's new exhibits could be.

The Germans Have Landed!

TeamXchange launched its first international partnership between FLL teams on August 26, 2010. After nine months of emails, phone calls and Skype conferences, Da Steam from Oberhausen, Germany (a tiny town south of Munich) arrived in Kansas City to work with LEARN Science and Math Club's three FLL teams.

Kids Fight Urban Sprawl

The Rockin' Robo Rabbits, one of our FLL teams, felt driven to change Kansas City's future development.Jenna, a memberteam, said “When we tabulated the results of our Kansas City Transportation survey we knew Kansas City had to find better ways for people to travel from suburbs to city centers. We focused on creating a better ride-sharing program. Available programs aren’t used much. 72% of Kansas Citians don’t ride share because:

Kansas City Transportation Study

One of our FLL teams, the Rockin' Robo Rabbits, dived into the Smart Moves challenge with a focus on one of Kansas City metro's most serious challenges: urban sprawl. Kansas City covers nearly 8,000 square miles, making it the fifteenth largest city though it is only the 29th most populated American city.
