Everyone – kids, coaches and mentors alike – had a great time at Robo Camp 2010. From the moment campers entered the door on day one, the team-building activities had them laughing.
Throughout that first day, they struggled to build the robots and attachments of their dreams – and found it a bit harder than they imagined. Still, they laughed. They built amazing contraptions – wrecking balls, rams three times the size of their robots and devices to throw the mission obstacles across the table. Not all of them worked, but the kids didn’t mind. They were inventing!
On Day Two, they tackled programming. Many campers had never programmed before, but they were willing to jump in and learn. They soon were writing code that got their robots moving… not always moving where they wanted, but still moving.
That same day, the competition started. Sometimes the robots did ask their creators asked. Sometimes, they careened off and tore up the mission obstacles. Even in the agonies of defeat, the kids continued to laugh. That’s one of the great joys of working with kids – they, much more than some adults, can relax and enjoy the process. It was a great two days!
We can't wait 'til Robo Camp next year. It's more fun than the circus!
